Divergent is New York Time's best selling series in 2011, written by Veronica Roth. Taking place in the city of Chicago, the society is divided up into 5 factions; Candor, Erudite, Dauntless, Amity & Abnegation. When teenagers reach the age of 16, it is up to them to decide which faction they belong to for the rest of your life, or they can decide to stay in the faction they were born into. To make this decision easier, everyone has to take an aptitude test to help decide which faction they should choose when it comes to the choosing ceremony. For Beatrice Prior, her test results were inconclusive, meaning that she she is classified as Divergent. As good as it sounds, the Divergent are the ones hunted down and killed, because they do not fit into just one certain faction. Faction leaders are power-hungry and want complete control over those who join, and want them to adapt to their faction as efficiently as they can. Beatrice Prior now has to live a life adjusting to the Dauntless faction, which ends up in her finding out more secrets about the Divergent and who else is just like her.
For this project, I decided to compare the Factions of Divergent to our society today, including the comparison of the Aptitude testing and SAT testing. I compared the factions and jobs/people of our society today just by their traits, morals, and acts in the book. Divergent is an plot-crazy book that I suggest to anyone who love a good drama, action storyline.
