Candor- The Honest. Provided trustworthy and sound leaders in law (Roth 41)
Appearance- Black and white clothing, they see the truth in black and white
Traits- Honest, trustworthy, confident, able to read body language to detect lies. Others may see them as insensitive (Roth 33)
The people of candor believe that if everyone told the truth and was honest, the world would be a much better place (Roth 33). Candor is always honest with others, no matter how hard it is to tell one the truth, or even if it will get you in trouble. If one chooses to pick Candor at the Choosing Ceremony, the initiation is that they must take lie detector tests all day long. They believe that if a Candor Initiative tells the deepest of their darkest secrets, they will not have any desire to lie about anything again. Admitting the truth to everyone, especially the darkest truths, means that the worst is pretty much already out there, so it would be stupid to lie about something that isn't as bad as what you have already let everyone know about.

who are the candor's in today's society?
People that could be considered as "Candor" in today's society are Judges. Judge's have to be fair and open-minded when it comes to listening to certain cases that they have to deal with. They are dealing with people who could have committed murders, and judge's value honesty. If someone they are dealing with isn't being honest and they know it, it is up to them to make an honest decision for what should happen with them. Most judge's typically listen to arguments and make the decision if any information presented deserves a trial. An opinion of a judge is needed to make decisions based off of a lawyer's arguments as well. Judge's cannot show bias in any way either. Someone else that could be considered Candor could be counselors. They are their to help others and give their honest opinion to help them out. An example could be a marriage counselor. They are listening to both husband and wife about whatever problems they may have, and then he/she can give their advice. Advice from a counselor is somewhat better than just a friend of family member because a family member or friend will take your side, and a counselor will tell you how it is and how to help that situation.

The one person that I could find that fit the "Candor" faction the best was Abraham Lincoln, also known as "Honest Abe". He is obviously not living in today's society, but he made such an impact on people that we still teach the history of Abraham Lincoln to students, and even celebrate his birthday. Lincoln begun law practice and gave advice for potential lawyers, stating, "Resolve to be honest at all events; and if in your judgement you can be an honest lawyer, resolve to be honest without being a lawyer. Choose some other occupation, rather than one in the choosing of which you do, in advance, consent to be a knave." For more why Lincoln was called "Honest Abe", click here.
